About Julia Shepley
Julia Shepley layers translucent media such as cast and etched glass, fabric and Mylar using stitching, structural elements, ink and pencil drawings and their cast shadows to create three-dimensional drawings. She is inspired by the study of natural structures and processes over time to create artwork that imply a physical journey through the layers of story, structure and space. Shepley works in series of related works which can be shown in a group installations, in pairs or individually. Shepley is represented by the Boston Sculptors Gallery, Boston, MA; is a member of The Textile Study Group in NYC, and is represented in museum and library collections in the Boston area. She works out of her studio in the Brickbottom Artists Building in Somerville. Shepley studied at Hampshire College and Boston University and grew up in Boston, Marshfield, MA and Sierra Leone, WA.
